Custom Discord Plush 1.0 Details

Okay starting bottom-to-top, these are the bits I was especially happy with on our big fella. Everything apart from his eyebrows and head were machined, and reinforced so he can rough and rumble all day long. I like my plush to be huggable rather than ornaments. Also it means people won't pull them apart and complain, if I'm cynical.

- Special "ribbed" minky arm fabric with my best attempt at sculpting a palm shape using stitches. The lines almost match up perfectly all the way down the arm.
- Gator leg: individually made claws and foam supported ankle. I tried just making a single shape with white minky for both claws but it looked a bit blobby.
- Articulated tail - not wire as I don't fancy pulling him open ever again to replace a snap. This is a tough, heavy, nylon ball-joint armature about 3/4" thick and works much like an actual spine. I thought I'd been really oddball thinking this up and then found out loads of people do it for manes and wings. Hooray!
- Embroidered and appliqué eyes. 'Cause I love stroking eyeballs. The lip, smirk and tooth were done on the fly. You can also see the embroidered wings in this shot. They're lined with two layers of thick felt, and the very last thing I will go back and do is "bone" them with a bit of foam when I feel a long afternoon is free.
- Horns, The white one is actually stuffed. I used a chopstick and tiny peas of stuffing. The blue horn has a heeelariious story behind it (or not).*

Aand that's your lot. 30 hours all told, and I will probably not repeat him unless someone offers a healthy commission fee.

*I sewed all the lines on it on the machine by hand, then cut it out, laid it on the minky, copied the lines and sewed, cut out the other half of the horn. Then found out I hadn't flipped the fabric, so had two identical pieces. I started over, did it again. Did it a total of four times before nearly flipping the table. And this is why you don't try and sew at 3am.
